  4. Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM)

    You can call the CALM on 0800 58 58 58 (5pm–midnight every day) if you are struggling and need to talk. Or if you prefer not to speak on the phone, you could try the CALM webchat service.

  5. Shout

    If you would prefer not to talk but want some mental health support, you could text SHOUT to 85258. Shout offers a confidential 24/7 text service providing support if you are in crisis and need immediate help.

  6. The Mix

    If you're under 25, you can call The Mix on 0808 808 4994 (3pm–midnight every day), request support by email using this form on The Mix website or use their crisis text messenger service.

Homes for living – E.ON

Homes for living provides mobility products and home adaptations to support people to stay mobile, such things as handrails and shower shelves. Scheme is free for people who meet the eligibility criteria, depending on household income or receipt of benefits, contact them to check eligibility.

First four items are free, beyond that there is a fee for extra items all with instillation included. You do not have to be an E.ON customer.

The Arches Nottingham – Furniture

Help people who are moving into empty properties get some furniture to start them off. As a support worker you need to sign up to be a referrer. Has furniture such as beds, chairs, sofas, coffee tables, white goods, toasters, kettles etc.

NAD Grill

Nad Grill is a takeaway that also helps vulnerable people. They take donations of food and furniture, providing families and individuals that have been rehomed by homeless shelters, refuge and hostels with furniture, white goods and other essential items.

René House CIC

Provides short term housing for homeless people to get them back on their feet, provides support to residents, befriending, support with life skills. Usually shared housing, paired with the best people they can. Houses are drug and alcohol free.

Sharewear - Clothing

Help with getting usable clothing for all ages, including babies. Clients need to be referred to Sharewear by one of the many organisations in Nottingham, including but not limited to Framework, Citizens Advice Bureau, Nottingham Recovery Network and the Nottingham Women’s Centre. Sustrans are providing free bikes for jobseekers until the end of March 2022, they include free maintenance and training.

Ridewise – Bike lessons and loaning

Ridewise offers paid and free bike lessons for anyone, depending on location and circumstances. Bike and helmet can be provided for lessons.

They also have a bike library to loan different bikes out for up to 4 weeks for free. Subject to availability.

Help with Utilities and Bills:

Severn Trent Water – Big Difference Scheme

For Severn Trent Water customers with a household income below £16,385, households will be assessed and can get a reduction of their water bills up to 90%. If successful a new payment plan will be issued including any debt on the account. The scheme runs for a year but can be reapplied to at the end of the year.

Will need to supply evidence of household income, either from 3 months worth of payslips or benefit award letters from the DWP

Green Doctor – Groundwork

Free consultations to help reduce heating bills and keep people warm over winters. Can help to fix house problems like damp or insulation. Help to switch energy providers to get the best deals, tips on saving energy and water as well as help to access other support like emergency grants or debt advice.

Household Support Grant

People who receive council tax support can apply for a supermarket e-voucher (£50) and an energy bill e-voucher (two £49 vouchers). Limited number, first come first serve, may come back again if all out.

Warmer Homes

Helping anyone who needs help against fuel poverty and proviate affordable warmth solutions, but especially the elderly, families with young children, people experiencing long term health issues or houses with low income.

They work to give energy advice, health and wellbeing services, increasing household income, heating repairs and replacements and installing home insulation.

Age UK – Nottingham City

Anyone over pension age and in receipt of means tested benefits OR have income between £20,383 (single) £27,340 (couple/family) can be referred to Age UK and provided with household support vouchers. (may run out in September 22).

Also offering Warm and Wise assessment for people over 50 in the city or county. Giving energy saving tips and advice around benefits, cost of living schemes, can have free bulbs fitted, radiator foils, draught excluders etc.
